INTRO:

Zhan Shu is an artist living and working in London,
primarily working in sculpture and painting.
Her works are often narrated in an absurdist comedy style.
She focuses on the narrative power of the ‘object’ itself in her work,
which often takes the form of a combination of plants and everyday objects.
She is concerned with natural objects in the city,
interested in how they are planned by the city and how they are used as a functional element.
As a result,
plants with human traces are often seen as the main characters in her absurd theatre.
She captures plants in their specific state and tries to tell an everyday and absurd story through them.
But the deliberate strangeness often present in these stories is hard to ignore
and tries to make the audience realise that there is a sadness and exhaustion underneath the ease of the everyday.
In this way,
she tries to raise questions about the absurdity of things that seem to be commonplace,
or to provoke a new examination and discussion of things that have become numb.
